Shueisha Inc. was first established in 1925 in Japan, devoted to entertainment magazines, as a division of the publishing company Shogakukan. In 1926, Shueisha became an independent company and in 1949, the publishing company was officially established as Shueisha Inc.
Shueisha Inc. is the largest manga publisher in the world with annual sales exceeding $1.15 billion and has established a 30% market share in Japan.
Shueisha Inc. continues to publish popular magazines such as Weekly Shonen Jump, the best-selling comic magazine for boys in Japan, with a weekly circulation of approximately 3 million copies.
Many titles published in Weekly Shonen Jump have enjoyed circulation of over 1 million copies in their graphic novel form. DRAGON BALL has sold over 150 million copies overall. ONE PIECE has sold over 140 million overall.
In addition, Shueisha publishes over 15 other manga (comic) magazines that are distributed throughout the world. Shueisha Inc. is also a publisher of trade books such as best-selling novels, dictionaries, art books, and children's books and also publishes men's and women's fashion magazines for the teenage to adult market. With the variety of publications the company distributes throughout the world, Shueisha Inc. is considered to be one of Japan's most successful publishers.
